Horse burger on menu in Hertfordshire restaurant

It had to happen… as Caterer reports, Host restaurant in Bishop’s Stortford (Hertfordshire) put a £7.50 horse burger on the menu this week.

Rather pessimistically, head chef John Gale predicts: “I would have thought we will have ten people come in and eat it, another ten people come in because they have read about it online who just want to see what is going on, and perhaps a few people who throw paint at the windows!”

Taking pictures in restaurants

Last week, the New York Times sparked a familiar discussion with their article about whether it is polite/ necessary/ unforgivable to take pictures of your food. For New York visitors who like to take a snap the conclusion seems to be: go to Per Se, stay away from Momofuku Ko.

Presciently, Grub Street had already written about the topic in June 2011, which allowed them to reuse the same stock image (faithfully reproduced here) this time around. London's dining scene overrated? Says who?

Londoners aren’t well represented on Eater’s panel of “industry experts, seasoned diners and friends of the site”. Perhaps not surprising then, that London got two mentions as “most overrated dining city” in today’s survey.

You can’t expect us to agree, but in case you still want to know, Seattle, Tokyo and Sydney fared better.
